The engine has been hooked onto the crane and we are just waiting to get the Civic back onto the lift so that we can start assembling the engine back to the car.

Adam changed the oil and the filter in the car.


We got the car on the lift, and lowered the car onto the engine.  When putting the bolts on the studs that hold the engine up, Adam realized that one of the bolts was not tightening. We realized that the stud was coming loose and the threads were starting to strip. Mr. Ds took it to a repair shop and they installed helicoil which cleans out the damaged threads and the helicoil is a new thread added in.

After we fixed the engine studs, we lifted the car so that we could start attaching things that were on the bottom.

The first thing we did was get the axels and connect them to the transmission. After, Adam was going to put the exhaust back on, while i attached  the power steering pump.

The second thing we did was to put the subframe back on.  To do this, we had to lie the subframe on a cart and start to lower the car until the holes lined up.

The first thing i did was taking off the hoses that were connected to the radiator. It was difficult to get some of them off but I used a flat head screwdriver to loosen them. The next step was to take off the clutch slave cylinder. After, I took off the plastic air cover to get a better access point to taking off the sub frame. My partner Adam removed ball joint nut, and removed the axel nut from outer wheel hub right side. He also rear engine mount, and axel. Took off belt, and drew a picture to remember how it works. week 5

The engine is out. The first step is to see what the new engine needs from the old one, and move the parts over. The wiring harness had to be moved over to the new engine and it is very important that the correct plugs were connected into the right spots. It is important because we would not know if there is a plug in the wrong spot until the engine is back in the car and we have done a test run. If there was a miss connected plug, then we would have to take the engine out again and figure out whats wrong. Some hoses had to be removed and transferred over to the new engine. One hose was too long to be connected so we had to cut it and make it the right size. I had to move the power steering pump over. I was careful to make sure i put it on the right way because if you turned it upside down, the bolts and the holes would still line up which made it look like it would still fit. What is the problem?:  The problem with the car is that the engine is burning oil. After doing research, I found that one possible cause of the burning oil could be the piston rings. If the p iston rings  can not seal the cylinder wall, then oil will leak into the combustion chamber where it will burn . I took all the spark plugs out and did a dry compression test, then wrote the results down. I then added a few squirts of oil into each piston and did a wet compressi o n test, and wrote the results down.  Step 1 To find out the cause: I did a dry and wet compression test. Results:  compression test (dry) 1st cylinder - 150 PSI 2nd cylinder - 90 PSI 3rd cylinder - 150 PSI 4th cylinder - 120 PSI compression test (wet) 1st cylinder - 150 PSI 2nd cylinder - 130 PSI 3rd cylinder - 190 PSI 4th cylinder - 160 PSI After the tests, I compared the two charts to see what the results are going to be.
